Betapak is based on the Isle of Wight. Our strategy embeds sustainability in all we do, ensuring we meet the needs of the present without compromising the future; how we act is a reflection of this and our responsibility to conserve natural resources and protect our ecosystem.
We understand and strive as a business to support and protect this in all we do. However, as important as our own operations are, we understand the role we play as part of the wider supply chain. Working with our customers, supply partners, and manufacturers to influence, use and develop environmentally and socially sustainable practices at every stage; to protect and enhance the lives of people and the environment across the whole supply chain of which we form part.
As you would expect, we encourage recycling, reduce packaging waste, have installed low energy lighting and room sensors, use eco-boil machines and energy efficient heating across operations. But there is so much more…
77 solar panels are installed on the roofs of our offices and warehouse complex, capable of generating 30,000 watts of power, making us a net producer at times, and significantly reducing our consumption of electricity generated from fossil fuels.
We have invested to manufacture and stock our own biodegradable loose fill packaging, an extremely eco-friendly product made completely from starch which is lighter, water-soluble, and 100% compostable; a product that has met with significant demand from companies looking for local supply to reduce transport miles, with production powered by our own solar panels.
A trading company within Betapak. Providing high quality, ‘Fairtrade’ sourced fresh roasted and ground coffee to our customers using hybrid coffee roasting equipment, powered by our own solar panels. SALSA approved and a member of the British Coffee Association, an association committed to supply chain resilience through Fairtrade.
We continue to invest in our growing electric vehicle fleet, charged from our own array of solar panels on the roofs of our offices and warehouse complex, reducing the use of fossil fuels.
Delivery Planning and Intelligent Routing Enables us to plan the most effective route for each and every delivery run. This factors in the type of vehicle, to minimise fuel use and maximise range for our electric vehicles in addition to taking into account road closures and conditions.
We consciously select and work with manufacturers and supply partners that themselves have a clear and demonstrable environmental and sustainability strategy. This extends beyond product suppliers, for example, we work with a number of B CORP Certified and climate action group Ecologi.
We strive to provide more environmentally positive products to our customers. This includes the Evans E.Dose range, moving from supplying conventional chemical-based products to low environmental impact super-concentrate cleaning and hygiene products, that are awarded Environmental Management System ISO 14001, as well as achieving certification with The Planet Mark.
Whilst we are not able to fully eliminate paper, we have reduced internal use by over 70%. For example, our product catalogue has been reduced to only 2,000 from 6,000 copies previously.
Aside from using recycled and sustainable paper stock where use cannot be eliminated such as with our catalogues, we now offset this with the planting of trees. Here we work with climate action group Ecologi and have set a target to plant 3,000 to restore ecosystems as part of the United Nations EcoSystem Restoration Project.
We are proactive in working with our team, supply partners and customers on the part they have to play in protecting the environment, including training workshops and video tutorials on how to reduce waste and make best use of our products and services to reduce both waste and cost for them.
